How 1 Finance makes the belated ITR filing process easier for you?

DIY tax filing can be risky

DIY tax filing seems simple, but a missed deduction or incorrect tax details can mean paying more tax than you actually owe, or even drawing income tax notices.

Professional tax support

Experienced Chartered Accountants apply the specific checks a belated return needs, like income verification, deduction eligibility, and TDS reconciliation, directly to your filing. You also get one-on-one support to resolve any tax questions as they come up.

Aligned with current tax rules

Your belated ITR for FY 2025-26 (AY 2026-27) gets prepared and filed under the applicable provisions of the Income Tax Act 1961, including the late filing fee and interest that apply once your original ITR deadline has passed.

What filing a belated ITR still protects

Claim your tax refund

If you've paid more tax than you owe through TDS or advance tax, filing a belated ITR is how you claim that excess back.

Keep your proof of income

Your ITR serves as proof of income for loan and visa applications, and a belated ITR filing still puts that proof on record.

Avoid an income tax notice

If your income is above the exemption limit and no return gets filed, the Income Tax Department can issue a notice and levy penalties beyond the late fee.

What a belated ITR actually costs

A penalty for late filing of income tax return for individuals applies under Section 234F of the Income Tax Act, 1961.

  • ₹5,000 where income exceeds ₹5 lakh and ₹1,000 if your total income is ₹5 lakh or less. This is a fixed, one-time charge applied at the time you file a belated return.
  • Interest at 1% a month applies separately under Section 234A on any tax left unpaid past your original due date.

Miss this window, and belated ITR filing is no longer an option. Only an Updated Return (ITR-U) remains, carrying a higher tax cost and no right to claim a refund.
